Announcing the launch of the nation's first Master of Anticipatory Intelligence (MAI)

Now Accepting Applications!

We are now accepting applications for Undergraduate Minor in Anticipatory Intelligence, Graduate Certificate in Anticipatory Intelligence, and the Master of Anticipatory Intelligence! If you are interested in joining an interdisciplinary community of problem solvers, email us at cai@usu.edu to schedule an appointment with our advisor, Tyler Doering.

Nation's First Master of Anticipatory Intelligence (MAI)

The Master of Anticipatory Intelligence is a nationally pathbreaking professional degree program that uniquely prepares students from science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), social science, and other disciplinary backgrounds to anticipate and successfully navigate complex emergent security challenges across a wide range of fields and industries. The MAI is the nation’s first graduate degree in the field of Anticipatory Intelligence, responding to a significant upswell in labor market demand across the US public and private sectors for security-focused graduates and professionals from a wide range of disciplinary backgrounds who possess advanced training in both hard and soft skills of security thinking, structured toolkits for system-level threat assessment and resilience design, and sophistication in interdisciplinary analysis and synthesis regarding complex and emergent security issues affecting their professional fields. Read the Utah State Today article and learn more about the MAI curriculum, coursework, and application process on the MAI program page.

Welcome

Utah State University's Center for Anticipatory Intelligence is leading an evolution in university education and security thinking. CAI has led the pioneering effort in the US to establish the academic field of Anticipatory Intelligence: a multidomain approach to anticipating threats and opportunities emerging from the world’s increasingly complex security environment, oriented around the goal of reducing uncertainty and designing resilience across future scenarios. CAI's curriculum combines top-tier collaborative expertise in engineering, data science, life sciences, mathematics, ethics and philosophy, national security studies, geopolitics, and behavioral sciences to cross-train students and professionals with the skills and analytic sophistication necessary to anticipate and confront the complex, transformative, and existential challenges of the twenty-first century.

As the laboratory school for Anticipatory Intelligence, CAI moves far beyond the siloed approach to university education that remains common. By tapping the problem-solving power of cross-disciplinary teams, CAI courses equip current and rising decisionmakers with the multidisciplinary perspective necessary to better anticipate unprecedented threats and unintended consequences coming quickly from converging trends in and beyond the cyber, data science, biotechnology, climate change, geopolitical, and social realms. A sharply improved ability to grasp the forces shaping complex emergent security issues empowers decisionmakers with perhaps the most important asset of all: improved skill in designing strategies of resilience that capitalize on strengths and opportunities in this complex landscape while successfully mitigating critical risks.

What We're Reading This Month

Four Battlegrounds book cover

Hello World: Being Human in the Age of Algorithms

Amazon.com: When it comes to artificial intelligence, we either hear of a paradise on earth or of our imminent extinction. It’s time we stand face-to-digital-face with the true powers and limitations of the algorithms that already automate important decisions in healthcare, transportation, crime, and commerce. Hello World is indispensable preparation for the moral quandaries of a world run by code, and with the unfailingly entertaining Hannah Fry as our guide, we’ll be discussing these issues long after the last page is turned.
